Dear Mrs. Carvalho,

I think of you often and especially today. I never lost a child, so I don't really understand, but as a Mom, I am sure this is a hard day for you. I believe that you have resolute faith in knowing that you and your child will one day again, be reunited. This is going into the third year since my husband died, and for some reason, this year it's harder. I don't know if it means I am getting stronger - and won't have daily grief or it is just something that everyone experiences. I do hope that you were able to enjoy this Mother's Day. I am certain that Isabella was smiling down upon you.

Dear Isabella,

Although I never you knew you on a personal level, I most definitely know you on a spiritual one. For a year or so now, your Mom always lights a candle on my husband's page. Captain Edwin.

Up until today, I thought you were just both Angels in God's kingdom, but now I know you are more then that. Although there is a huge expanse of time - you both share the very same birthday - and to me that is no coincidence. Ed was always someone who watched over the young one's and now I know why I have felt a strong bond to you and to your family.

You are a beautiful child, and a wonderful Spirit filled Angel. I see my Ed hovering above, all in white garb, tending over the young Angels, giving out his advice as he always did - always with a sense of humor. He never ceased to amaze me at how he interacted with our youth - and so it does not surprise me to know and believe that his purpose in heaven has been revealed to me. You sweet Angel, can watch over him too.

Today, I am going to bake a cake and I am going to write your name on the cake along with Ed's and then I am going to say a special prayer and thank God for the blessing that HE gave to your family the day you were born, and to mine, the day Ed and I met and finally married.

Our marriage was short Angel girl, less then five years, but it was the time God gave to us, and for that, I will always be grateful. Just as I am certain that the day your graced your parents world was awesome and special.

I used to be afraid of death Isabella, until the night my Edwin died and when I saw a fine white veil lift from his body and ascend into the heavens, peace filled my soul like never before, and I have not been the same since. While I miss him, I know without a shadow of a doubt that he is at peace - just as I know you are at peace in the Hallowed Halls of God's Kingdom.

Happy Birthday Isabella - may your wings soar as your years in heaven increase.
